but users of Solidworks Standard will only be able
to load it IN ONE PIECE, as stl.

to load it with all individual parts intact,

The mesh spine will not in all cases be as useful
to the 3D CAD software using engineer
as the nurbs spine or even the solid spine assembly,
but it will be handy for 3d visualization,
also prosthetics design.
